The story
In a future where the elite inhabit an island paradise far from the crowded slums, you get one chance to join the 3% saved from squalor.
What it’s like
Hard, saturated sunlight over a dystopian coastline: the Brazilian series 3% (Portuguese-language) plays its two worlds against each other, with the slum "Inland" shot in dusty, overcast, claustrophobic grey-brown and the Offshore island in glossy, high-key blue and white that feels sterile rather than warm. Handheld, close-in camera work keeps the young cast tight in the frame during the selection trials, while the polished island scenes sit in wide, symmetrical compositions. Electronic pulses and tense strings push the trials forward, with quieter, more intimate scoring in the poorer districts. The vibe is sun-bleached unease and simmering anger, best for a long evening on the sofa or a binge across a few weekends. Pacing is brisk, with each episode ending on a turn that pulls you to the next. The emotional register is competitive and bitter, following a group of young people and their shifting loyalties and betrayals as the ruthless process grinds on. Intensity is moderate: some brutal fights, a few deaths, and tense, sometimes cruel confrontations, but little gore and no explicit sexual content. It suits viewers who want a socially charged dystopian thriller with a strong sense of class anger.
