The story
80'S OVERDRIVE is a 2D pixel art racing game, designed to take you back in time to when 8 and 16 bit consoles and arcade games ruled the world. Compete against opponents in career mode to unlock new races, buy new cars, and upgrade them with state-of-the-art technologies! Try your skill in time attack mode and see how far you can get in this race against the clock! Create your own tracks with built-in track generator and easily share them with your friends!
What it’s like
Chunky pixel art in a bright, saturated 80s palette: hot magenta sunsets, cyan-tinted night roads, and sun-striped highways that scroll past in crisp retro bands. The camera sits behind the car in a fixed, arcade-style view, with flat, pixel-built scenery sliding by at speed. Sound is all chiptune: bouncy synth lead lines, a steady drum loop, and the satisfying blips of checkpoints and upgrades. The vibe is nostalgic and upbeat, a cheerful wink at 8- and 16-bit arcade racers, best for a playful evening, a quick session on the handheld, or a stretch of pick-up-and-play time. Pacing is brisk and rhythmic: short races, escalating career goals, and the clock-ticking pressure of time attack. The emotional register stays light and competitive, with a steady sense of progress as cars get faster and tracks multiply. Intensity is minimal: no blood, no gore, no sexual content, and crashes are cartoonish and brief, though the late-game races can be stressful. Suited to retro-gaming fans, arcade racing lovers, and players who enjoy building and sharing their own tracks.
