The story
Claire Wilson, a young teacher at a suburban Texas high school, begins an affair with her student, Eric Walker. But their relationship accelerates faster than anticipated and the permanent damage becomes impossible to ignore.
What it’s like
Handheld, close-cropped camerawork follows its characters through flat, sun-bleached Texas suburbs, with fluorescent school corridors, cluttered bedrooms and car interiors lit by harsh afternoon glare. The palette is washed and unglamorous, cool blues and dusty beige, and the sound stays spare: ambient hum, distant traffic, a few muted pop songs from a stereo, and long stretches of quiet that let discomfort settle. Its vibe is quietly unsettling, a slow-burn dread with a documentary-like realism rather than thrills. The pacing is deliberate and intimate, watching small choices compound until their consequences feel unavoidable, and the emotional register is cool, observational and bleak. It follows an adult teacher and a teenage student whose secret bond escalates and then fractures, leaving lasting damage on both. Intensity: sexual content and an adult-minor relationship presented frankly, with emotional harm and little overt threat; no graphic violence and no gore. It suits viewers who want serious, uncomfortable drama about power, boundaries and their aftermath, and it is a hard watch for anyone wanting something gentle.
