The story

Crafted with passion by the dream team that redefined side-scrolling beat 'em ups, Absolum mixes top-of-the-class combat action with modern roguelite elements, bringing all the vibes of the fantasy arcade hits of the past into an immersive adventure set in the original world of Talamh.

What it’s like

Bright, hand-painted 2D sprites sweep across layered fantasy backdrops in vivid, saturated colour, with chunky pixel-clean hit flashes and the satisfying crunch of sword and spell landing on crowds of enemies. The sound leans on bouncy, brassy arcade-style chiptune-adjacent themes that loop cheerfully through each run, while the sound of combat stays punchy and tactile. The vibe is lively and nostalgic, a Saturday-morning arcade rush with a roguelite's rhythm: short, repeated runs through side-scrolling stages, each one a little different, with progression that rewards another go. Intensity is cartoonish fantasy combat with plenty of enemies defeated in bursts of light and no gore, and fear is minimal. It suits a couple of co-op sessions on the couch, a background run while winding down, or a quick hit between other things. It is for players who loved the golden age of beat 'em ups and want that same chunky, friendly brawling wrapped in a longer, looping adventure.
