The story

A high school becomes ground zero for a zombie virus outbreak. Trapped students must fight their way out — or turn into one of the rabid infected.

What it’s like

Fluorescent school corridors under flickering tube light, grimy greys and sickly green-blue, rain-slick courtyards and dusk through dirty windows, all shot in restless handheld movement that stays close to frightened faces. Sound does much of the work: squeaking sneakers, shattering glass, sudden screams cutting into near-silence, with a pulsing percussive score that swells during chases. The pace is relentless, with long stretches of running, barricading and stairwell standoffs broken by sharp, quick bursts of gore that land hard and fast rather than lingering. Cruelty is central: classmates turn on each other as often as on the infected, so the dread is social as well as physical. The mood is anxious, grim and tense, with flashes of raw grief and uneasy loyalty among teenagers pushed past their limits. Violence is frequent and bloody, with blunt impacts and visible wounds, and the show is often unsettling in its depiction of bullying and despair. It suits a late-night binge when you can handle tension, and it is for viewers who want zombie survival driven by character pressure and coming-of-age anxiety rather than gentle comfort.
