The story

In the dark, early days of a zombie apocalypse, complete strangers band together to find the strength they need to survive and get back to loved ones.

What it’s like

Handheld, jittery camera stays close to faces in grey, overcast daylight and the murky green-brown of rural Oregon woods, with night scenes lit by flashlight beams and headlamps that cut through black. The palette is cold and washed out, the frame often crowded and chaotic, and the sound is built from distant sirens, rustling undergrowth, gunfire that cracks sudden and close, and long stretches of tense quiet. The mood is raw panic and grinding dread, shading into sun-bleached desperation as the survivors push onward with little rest. Violence is frequent and graphic: zombies are dispatched in close, bloody fights, bodies are shown with wounds and gore, and deaths land hard and without warning. There are sexual references and some cruelty between survivors, and the stress rarely lets up. Expect a fast, relentless rhythm across episodes with few quiet moments, suited to a viewer who wants a grim, high-tension zombie survival story and is comfortable with brutal, unflinching violence rather than anything gentle.
