The story

Ash, a handsome, shotgun-toting, chainsaw-armed department store clerk, is time warped backwards into England's Dark Ages, where he romances a beauty and faces legions of the undead.

What it’s like

Bright, hyperkinetic studio-lit chaos with a fairy-tale storybook sheen: rich castle interiors lit by torchlight and smoky amber, bold saturated colour, and a gleefully over-the-top camera that swoops, whip-pans and crash-zooms through slapstick set pieces. The look blends Gothic horror with Three Stooges pratfalls, with stop-motion-style skeletons, practical gore that is more gleeful than grim, and a bouncy orchestral score that keeps the pace peppy. Vibe: goofy,爽 adrenaline-fuelled camp, a Saturday-afternoon rental with a grin. It suits a rowdy movie night with friends, a silly comfort rewatch, or anyone craving a cartoonish fantasy romp. Pacing is brisk and relentless, with an arc of a boastful, cowardly everyman slowly becoming a reluctant hero, and a flirty romance played for laughs. Intensity is moderate and cartoonish: plenty of comic violence, skeleton dismemberment, splattery gore and a few jump scares, but nothing lingering or truly cruel, with only mild innuendo. For fans of slapstick horror-comedy who like their monsters silly and their heroes self-mocking.
