The story

A tactical role-playing video game based on the animated TV series Steven Universe and featuring a story written by series creator Rebecca Sugar. Join Steven and the three Crystal Gems—Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl — as they travel across five color-themed worlds. Players move across the map by swiping the touchscreen and can interact with chests, mechanisms, and hidden areas to obtain items that can either be used in battle or to open up other areas. Some areas may be inaccessible until players solve a puzzle or obtain the necessary item from another level.

What it’s like

Bright, storybook-cartoon colour carries this mobile tactics game: five worlds, each keyed to a single saturated palette, rendered in the flat, soft-edged shapes and gentle outlines of its animated source. The look is clean and sunny rather than moody, with pastel glows on crystal-lit terrain and a bouncy, chiming soundtrack that loops quietly under turn-based fights. Movement is a swipe across a touchscreen grid, so the rhythm is unhurried: slide, poke at a chest or a hidden switch, puzzle out a locked path, then take a short battle with a light, forgiving pace. Its tone is warm, playful and low-stakes, with a faintly wistful undercurrent in the friendships between Steven and the Crystal Gems. It suits a commute, a lazy afternoon on the sofa or a bedtime session, and it's a comfortable fit for anyone who wants gentle fantasy with no real threat, mostly cartoon scuffles and no gore. Fans of the show, and younger players who like exploring and light tactics, will feel most at home in it.
