The story

In the 22nd century, a paraplegic Marine is dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission, but becomes torn between following orders and protecting an alien civilization.

What it’s like

Lush, saturated bioluminescence against deep night: glowing forests, floating mountains lit in cyan and violet, and a daylight world of emerald canopy and hazy amber sky rendered in crisp, glossy digital imagery with a wide, immersive sweep. Camera moves constantly in sweeping aerial flights and fluid tracking shots, while close handheld moments keep faces intimate. The score is orchestral and swelling, with tribal percussion and hushed woodwind in the quieter passages, and the forest sounds of rustling leaves, insect hum and creature calls build a rich, immersive soundscape. The vibe is awe-struck and earnest, a big-screen spectacle to lose yourself in on a weekend evening or a long-haul flight. Pacing is steady and expansive, with long stretches of wonder punctuated by large-scale battle set pieces. Emotionally it is sincere and hopeful, following a displaced soldier slowly drawn into a community that teaches him to belong. Intensity is moderate to high: sustained war violence, with gunfire, explosions, and deaths in combat, mostly bloodless but some grim, and a few tense, frightening moments. It suits viewers who want immersive, heartfelt escapism and grand visual scale.
