The story
A solitary cat, displaced by a great flood, finds refuge on a boat with various species and must navigate the challenges of adapting to a transformed world together.
What it’s like
Soft, painterly light and wide, drowned landscapes rendered in a rich, dreamy digital style with no dialogue to lean on, so the image and sound carry everything. Overgrown ruins rise from still, grey-green water, and the frame often holds a long beat on a small figure against sky and sea, with the camera drifting rather than cutting. The score is sparse and ambient, mostly low strings and wind, with the creak of wood and the slap of water doing much of the work. The vibe is quiet, wistful wonder with a thread of unease, the kind of film that suits a slow weekend afternoon or a long, contemplative night. Its pace is unhurried and its emotional register gentle, following a solitary cat slowly learning to trust a mismatched group of animals who must rely on one another. Intensity is low: peril from rising water and storms is present and occasionally tense, but there is no gore and little overt violence, and the fear stays atmospheric. It is for people who want a calm, nonverbal adventure with heart, especially those who enjoy animation that trusts silence and landscape.
