The story

A lonely dog's friendship with his robot companion takes a sad turn when an unexpected malfunction forces him to abandon Robot at the beach. Will Dog ever meet Robot again?

What it’s like

Soft hand-drawn animation in warm, muted pastels, with a loose graphic line and a soft, washed-out palette that turns New York summers into sun-faded memory. The film is nearly wordless, carried by expressive gestures, sound design of clinking metal and crashing waves, and a score that swells and dips with a gentle, melancholic lilt. Its frames favour wide, sunlit compositions of crowded streets, empty boardwalks and the sea at dusk, with long patient holds that let small moments breathe. The vibe is wistful and tender, a bittersweet friendship story with warmth and a quiet ache, suited to a lazy afternoon, a comfort rewatch, or a rainy evening when you want something soothing. The pace is unhurried and the emotional register gentle, following two lonely companions who drift apart and find their way back to each other. Intensity is very low: there is no violence or gore, only mild peril and sadness, with some brief cartoon slapstick. It suits adults and younger viewers who want an animated film that trusts silence and feeling, especially those who enjoy bromance-style friendship and sweet, melancholy summer nostalgia.
