The story
Arkham Asylum has been destroyed, and all its inmates have been unleashed upon Gotham City. As Batman races to round up some of his greatest enemies, he is pushed to his physical and mental limits and into a final confrontation with a new threat: the man called Bane!
What it’s like
Animated, with a comic-book sense of scale: a city pushed into disorder, a lone figure in a cowl moving through its streets and rooftops. The mood is tense and driven rather than cozy, a steady pressure that tightens as the night goes on, with the quieter moments reserved for the hero's exhaustion and doubt. Expect the rhythm of an action feature, with set-piece chases and brawls punctuating stretches of grim, anxious waiting. Violence is a central part of the experience, with close-quarters fights and a formidable antagonist, though the tone stays on the dramatic and psychological rather than dwelling on gore. The emotional register is weary and heavy, built around a hero pushed past his physical and mental limits, so the arc is one of endurance slowly breaking down. It suits a late-night watch when you want momentum and a dark, serious tone without much light relief, or a fan's evening with the familiar Gotham gloom. It is not a gentle or low-stakes choice. It is for viewers who want a grim, character-driven superhero story with plenty of action and a wounded, unflinching protagonist.
