The story

A nobody, Lee Seung-min is the epitome of an ordinary Joe. He has a crush on the most popular girl in school, Oh Ji-na, an idol trainee. Then one day, Oh Ji-na proposes that they start a fake relationship. Can Ji-na and Seung-min pull off their complicated fake relationship and start dating for real?

What it’s like

Bright, brisk school-set comedy with a sweet, lightly dramatic undertow, the kind of show that feels like an easy afternoon on the couch. Expect sunny corridors, classroom and courtyard scenes, and the glossy polish of a contemporary Korean romance, with bouncy pop-leaning music that lifts the comic beats and softens into warmer piano-like moments when feelings start to show. The mood is light, playful and affectionate, a little giddy, with the comedy of two people faking a relationship carrying most of the energy. Pacing is quick and episodic, with plenty of awkward glances and small misunderstandings, and the emotional arc is a gradual thaw between an ordinary, earnest boy and a popular girl who is more guarded than she first appears. Intensity is gentle: no real violence, minimal peril, romance kept chaste and physical contact limited to hand-holding and nervous proximity. It suits a lazy weekend, a comfort rewatch, or background viewing while doing something else, and it is well matched to viewers who want a cute, low-stakes teen romance with humour and a happy-leaning heart.
