The story
Experience the new high-definition, next generation sights and sounds of Beautiful Katamari as the Prince takes on a new high-rolling adventure, with his famous cousins in tow, to save the Katamari universe once again after the King of All Cosmos has a very un-royal and unfortunate accident. As usual, the King of All Cosmos demands the service of his son, the Prince, to roll anything and everything up into massive clumps and set things right, bringing harmony once again to the Katamari Cosmos. To keep his son inspired, the King of All Cosmos will provide another fresh and memorable soundtrack that will have players moving and grooving to the beat as they roll through the absurd, yet wonderful world of Beautiful Katamari.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated colour and a bouncy, sugary soundtrack carry this game, which sharpens its look for high-definition screens while keeping the stylised, slightly lo-fi charm of its low-poly world. Sunlit tabletop-scale landscapes and hand-placed clutter of shops, trees, and cityscapes fill a wide view as a sticky clump of objects rolls and swells beneath a camera that follows from above. The mood is giddy and gently playful, with a steady forward momentum: each stage sets a timer or target and invites short, satisfying bursts of rolling and collecting, then a loop of big, silly reveals. Its absurd humour sits in the surreal premise and the eccentric royal family rather than any threat, so the register stays warm and light throughout. Violence, gore, and fear are absent; the only real stakes are a ticking clock and the joy of getting bigger. Co-operative split-screen play adds a lively, chatty energy for sofa sessions. It suits a relaxed afternoon, a silly weekend with friends, or a low-stakes break when you want something cheerful, colourful, and easy to pick up.
