The story

When a prisoner transfer van is attacked, the cop in charge must fight those inside and outside while dealing with a silent foe: the icy temperatures.

What it’s like

Cold, blue-grey daylight over snowbound Pyrenean roads, with the frost and breath-fog doing as much work as the headlights; the palette runs steel, slate and sodium-orange interiors, and the camera stays tight and kinetic in the cramped van and on the icy highway. Sound is a constant low wind and the grind of tyres on packed snow, punctuated by sudden gunfire and crunching metal, with little music beyond a driving, percussive pulse during the chases. Pacing is relentless once the attack begins, with brief breathing spaces that feel like they might collapse at any moment, and the emotional register is hard-edged and adrenaline-driven rather than reflective. Violence is frequent and visceral: car crashes, shootings and hand-to-hand fights, with a fire-related injury and a rape-adjacent backstory among the prisoners, all shown with real bodily impact. This suits a late-night thriller with the lights off, or anyone wanting a lean, cold-weather survival action film, but it is not gentle, and it is not for viewers avoiding brutality or sexual violence.
