The story
FBI agent Malcolm Turner and his 17-year-old son Trent go undercover at an all-girls performing arts school after Trent witnesses a murder. Posing as Big Momma and Charmaine, they must find the murderer before he finds them.
What it’s like
Bright, glossy studio comedy with well-lit daytime interiors, saturated costume colours, and tidy, sitcom-style framing that keeps the focus on the performers. The score is upbeat and pop-driven, with hip-hop and dance cues that punctuate the gags. A father and son go undercover at a performing arts school in drag-style disguise, so much of the fun comes from broad physical comedy, quick reaction shots, and the awkward mechanics of impersonation. The rhythm is brisk and episodic, with set pieces that tip into mild action and a crime thread that stays in the background. Tone is light and goofy, with a warm, affectionate bond between the two leads at its centre. Intensity is low to moderate: a witnessed murder sets things going, and there are chase and fight scenes handled with cartoonish energy, but no gore. Expect crude jokes, sexual innuendo, and some bawdy humour. Best for a casual comedy night, fans of the franchise, or anyone wanting a loud, undemanding laugh with a bit of action.
