The story
When a famous Bollywood actor visits a small village for a film's shoot, a poor hairdresser's claim that they were once childhood friends soon makes him the centre of attention.
What it’s like
Bright, sun-washed village streets and a cramped, mirror-lined barbershop give this Hindi comedy its warm, lived-in look, with bold primary colours in the costumes and the bustle of a small Indian town filling the frame. The camera stays fairly conventional and busy, favouring mid-shots and comic reaction close-ups over stillness, and the score is a bouncy mix of playful dance numbers and sentimental strings that swells whenever old friendship resurfaces. Its vibe is good-natured and crowd-pleasing, with a bit of satirical bite about celebrity and fame, and it suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a family viewing, or a comfort watch when you want to laugh without strain. The pacing is brisk and episodic, the tone light and affectionate, and the central arc follows a modest man who is dazzled by stardom and a superstar who slowly rediscovers where he came from. Violence is minimal and slapstick-level; there is some gentle sexual innuendo and no real cruelty or fear. It is made for people who enjoy broad, big-hearted Bollywood comedy and tender reunion stories with a touch of melodrama.
