The story
The story follows a team of pirate mercenaries known as the Lagoon Company, that smuggles goods in and around the seas of Southeast Asia in the early to mid 1990s. Their base of operations is located in the fictional harbor city of Roanapur in southeast Thailand near the border of Cambodia.
What it’s like
Hard-edged anime with saturated tropical palettes: sun-bleached harbor streets, humid green jungle, and hot neon bars that bleed red and teal into the night. Its camera favors fast cuts, dramatic low angles and kinetic action, while the sound leans on gritty rock and jazz-tinged score, gunfire cracks, and rapid-fire bilingual banter in the street-market Roanapur it inhabits. The vibe is cynical, sweaty and darkly comic, a mood that suits a late-night binge or a loud weekend marathon more than quiet viewing. Pacing is brisk and episodic, with the crew's tangled loyalties and slow-burning rivalries giving the arcs their shape: hardened people who slowly, reluctantly reveal something human under the cynicism. Intensity is high: frequent graphic gunfights, bloody injuries, dismemberment and execution scenes, plus profanity, adult themes, cruelty and some sexual content and nudity. Nothing about it is gentle. It is for viewers who want crime-world grit, morally compromised antiheroes and stylized, unapologetically violent action with a sardonic edge.
