The story
One day, New York City as we know it vanished overnight into a mysterious fog. Now known as Hellsalem's Lot, it has become a place where another world beyond imagining is connected to our reality. The balance within this new world is protected by a secret society known as Libra. Leo, a journalist and photographer who arrives in the city, is unexpectedly recruited to join their ranks.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated animation with bold outlines, flat cel-shaded colour and loud, kinetic action that leans on exaggerated poses and quick cuts. Its New York is a fogbound, perpetually dusk-lit city where neon signs, sodium streetlamps and gaudy magical auras clash in deep blues, hot pinks and sickly greens, and the streets feel crowded, grimy and restless. The score is pulsing electronic and rock-tinged, with punchy brass in the fights and sudden quiet in the comic beats. Vibe: loud, scrappy, irreverent, with a dark streak running under the jokes. Pacing is brisk and episodic, switching between bloody set-piece fights, sharp banter and laughs at its own absurdity. Violence is frequent and stylised, with sprays of blood, dismemberment and creature gore that is more cartoonish than harrowing, plus bawdy humour and some sexual innuendo. Its heroes are a reluctant newcomer slowly finding loyalty among a bickering band of misfits. Best for viewers who want anime-style action and gallows humour on a late-night binge, not gentle or low-stakes viewing.
