The story

Bored with life, popular high schooler Yatora Yaguchi jumps into the beautiful yet unrelenting world of art after finding inspiration in a painting.

What it’s like

Bright, airy animation with saturated skies, crisp linework and painterly backgrounds that shift as Yatora's perception changes, so a city street at dusk can suddenly glow with thick, luminous color. Scenes often sit on quiet, daylight-filled studio rooms, sunlit art-school corridors and the grey-blue hush of early-morning sketching, with a warm, sparse score that gives way to near silence while characters work at their easels. The mood is earnest and hopeful, with a joyful undercurrent and bursts of nervous humor, though its emotional weight comes from frustration, self-doubt and the sting of comparing yourself to others. Pacing is unhurried and episodic, letting technique, critique and small victories breathe. The intensity is low: some tense competition and tearful moments, no violence, and the one romantic thread stays gentle and understated. A good fit for people who want a coming-of-age story about finding a passion, for a slow weekend watch or a gentle comfort rewatch while sketching or unwinding.
