The story

A New York City grad student moonlighting as a dominatrix enlists her gay BFF from high school to be her assistant.

What it’s like

Warm, lived-in apartment interiors, lamplit kitchens, and daytime Manhattan streets shot in a loose, naturalistic style that feels close to the characters without being restless, with a bright but slightly grubby palette and little music beyond light pop cues. The mood is wry, affectionate and a little awkward, the kind of easy comedy that suits a lazy weekend or a comfort rewatch with a friend. Episodes are short and dialogue-driven, moving at the speed of two people talking through a problem. Sexual content is frequent and frank: nudity, sex, and BDSM sessions are shown directly, but they are played for unease and humor more than heat, and there is no real violence or gore. Its emotional core is a close friendship under strain, with two people slowly renegotiating who they are to each other and to themselves. It is for viewers who want adult, sex-positive comedy about intimacy, work and the messiness of adult friendship, and who are comfortable with explicit material.
