The story
Three idealistic soldiers in the Indian army, navy and air force face grueling combat conditions in this film set during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
What it’s like
Wide desert vistas bleached to pale gold under harsh midday sun, then hard contrast in dust-choked night scenes lit by tracer fire and flare glow, give this war epic a scorched, grinding look. The camera leans toward big set-piece compositions, sweeping aerial and ground-level movement, and the staging of military units in open terrain, with the grain and sheen of a polished studio production. The sound is martial and percussive: drums, brass swells, the roar of jets and artillery layered over wind and boots on sand. Its vibe is rousing, dusty, and earnest, the kind of film that plays best on a big screen on a weekend night with someone who likes to be swept up in it. Pacing alternates between long stretches of waiting and sudden bursts of combat. The emotional register is patriotic and brotherly, following three young soldiers from different services as their idealism meets the grind of war and their bond is tested. Expect sustained battle violence, gunfire, explosions and wounded and dying soldiers, with some grim moments of loss; it is intense rather than gory, and not gentle. Made for viewers who enjoy military spectacle, true-history war stories, and rousing ensemble loyalty.
