The story

For ten years, the tortured soul of serial killer Charles Lee Ray has been imprisoned inside a child's doll. Chucky is reborn when his old flame, Tiffany, rescues his battered doll parts from a police impound. But Chucky wants his new playmate cut down to size, so he transforms his blushing bride into a stunning little terror. Chucky and Tiffany can't wait to start their own homicidal honeymoon. When this demonic duo hits the road and hooks up with a pair of unsuspecting newlyweds, they leave a trail of murder and mayhem behind them. Chucky's back!

What it’s like

Bright, saturated horror-comedy with the candy-colored gloss of late-nineties studio slasher: flat primary colors, fluorescent motel rooms, a sun-bleached Route 66 cruise through dusty Americana, and the gaudy pink-and-lace kitsch of a bridal shop and a wedding chapel. The camera is mostly conventional and quick, with punchy cuts, rapid tracking shots down roadside diners, and staged set-piece kills that play for laughs as much as shocks. Sound leans on a bouncy, synth-tinged score, wisecracking one-liners and a constant chatter of doll voices, with sudden stingers and bursts of kitchen-sink mayhem. The vibe is campy, cheeky and irreverent, a mischievous Halloween romp that suits a silly weekend night with friends or a comfort rewatch with a bowl of popcorn. Violence is frequent and graphic, with stabbings, gore, and a bloody, cartoonishly over-the-top body count, plus some sexual innuendo and crude humor, though the grisly moments are undercut by irony. Pacing is brisk and the emotional register is wry, with an odd, playful love story between two murderous dolls at its heart. Best for horror fans who enjoy gleeful gore, dark jokes and a self-aware B-movie sensibility rather than genuine dread.
