The story

Following the death of their father, a brother and sister are sent to live with a foster mother, only to learn that she is hiding a terrifying secret.

What it’s like

Grim, grey-blue interiors and cold suburban exteriors give way to a dim, claustrophobic house where lamplight pools in corners and shadows sit heavy in every frame. The Philippou brothers favour tight, unsettling close-ups and restless handheld movement that stays pressed against faces, so grief feels physical and unpredictable. The soundtrack leans on low drones, creaking wood and sudden sharp stings, with long stretches of uneasy silence between them. The mood is bleak, feverish and mournful, a slow-burning dread that tips into raw anger and sudden violence. Expect bodily horror, graphic gore and disturbing, emotionally brutal scenes involving a child in danger; the violence is frequent and lands hard, not stylised. Pacing builds steadily toward a chaotic, punishing final act. Its people are a grieving teenage brother and sister whose bond is tested and tangled by loss and a rising, desperate need to get back what they have lost. For viewers who want folk-horror dread, ritual unease and intense, unflinching emotional extremes, and not for anyone seeking something gentle.
