The story
Broad City follows two women throughout their daily lives in New York City, making the smallest and mundane events hysterical and disturbing to watch all at the same time.
What it’s like
Bright, bustling Manhattan and Brooklyn streets under flat daylight, with handheld, slightly jittery camera work that keeps close to the two leads as they bounce between subway platforms, cramped apartments, and sun-faded city blocks. The palette is saturated but unpolished: summer greens, dingy subway tile, the warm glow of a bodega cooler, and the fluorescent hum of offices and clinics. Scenes are short and quick-cut, and the sound is loud and busy, with street noise, car horns, overlapping banter, and a bouncy, offbeat soundtrack. The vibe is playful, bewildered, and scrappy, with a loose, cannabis-tinged looseness that suits a lazy weekend, a comfort rewatch, or something to fill an hour on a commute. Intensity runs mostly mild: frequent frank talk about sex, drugs, and body humor, some nudity and sexual innuendo, but no real violence and little real menace. The emotional register is warm and absurd, following two young women whose friendship anchors every chaotic detour. It's for viewers who want irreverent, bold, female-led comedy with a sharp sense of everyday city chaos.
