The story

Three "good girl" suburban wives and mothers suddenly find themselves in desperate circumstances and decide to stop playing it safe and risk everything to take their power back.

What it’s like

Bright, cluttered suburban kitchens and minivan driveways under flat daylight give way to sodium-lit parking lots, dim motel rooms and the hard white glare of a grocery store after closing, so the show keeps shifting between domestic comfort and nighttime unease. The camera stays close and fairly mobile, with quick cuts and a lot of reaction shots of faces, and the soundtrack leans on upbeat pop and rock that undercuts the tension. The tone is a wry, fast-talking blend of comedy and anxiety: the humor is sharp and affectionate, but the stakes keep climbing. Its three women move from timid to bold, and the arcs are mostly about pride, loyalty and the cost of pretending everything is fine. Violence is present and sometimes sudden, with gunfire, threats and a few bloody moments, though it is more often implied or quickly over than lingered on. Language is frequent and sexual content appears in a few scenes. It suits a binge over several evenings, or a watch with friends who like crime stories with a sense of humor, and it is best for viewers who enjoy strong female ensembles and don't need anything gentle.
