The story
The tight-knit Garvey sisters have always looked out for one another. But when the toxic brother-in-law they all wanted dead actually dies, it turns their lives upside down and tests their bond like nothing before.
What it’s like
Bright Dublin daylight, grey Irish drizzle and warm kitchen interiors frame this series, with seaside walks and tidy suburban streets shot in a crisp, naturalistic style that lets the weather do much of the mood work. Its vibe is darkly funny and bruised, a sharp-tongued comedy with real menace underneath, the kind of watch that suits a rainy evening with a glass of wine or a sofa binge with friends who enjoy black humour. The pacing is brisk and episodic, with sharp dialogue, quick reversals and tense, cringing set-pieces, while the emotional register swings between caustic laughter and tender loyalty. At its heart are five sisters whose bond is tested and rebuilt, and the arc is about how love, guilt and resentment coexist in a family that has long protected its own. Intensity is moderate and specific: there is domestic abuse, bullying and a persistent sense of cruelty, with a mix of tense confrontations and a few violent moments, but little gore. The show is for viewers who like dark comedy with heart, strong ensemble performances and women taking charge of messy, morally grey situations.
