The story

After moving to The Coterie in Downtown Los Angeles, Callie and Mariana Foster realize that living on their own is not all that it’s cracked up to be.

What it’s like

Bright, sun-washed Los Angeles rendered in warm daylight and glossy urban color: loft interiors with exposed brick, rooftop pools, Downtown streets lit by golden afternoon sun and the pinks and teals of late evening. The camera stays fairly conventional and mobile, with plenty of medium two-shots over breakfast counters and quick cuts through group scenes, and the image is clean digital with saturated color rather than grain. The score and soundtrack lean on upbeat pop and indie tracks, so the background hum is buoyant and talky. The vibe is breezy and warm, with a light tug of uncertainty underneath: a gentle, comfortable kind of growing up. It suits a lazy weekend, a comfort rewatch, or something on while cooking or tidying. Pacing is brisk and episodic, with frequent comic beats and friend-group banter. The emotional register stays hopeful and affectionate, following two sisters learning independence, one impulsive and one more cautious, as they stumble, reconcile and find their footing alongside roommates and a wider circle of friends. Intensity is low: mild romantic and sexual content, occasional drinking and partying, some arguments, and no meaningful violence or gore. Made for viewers who want warm, young-adult company and a sunny L.A. backdrop without anything heavy.
