The story

Draw the correct magic seal quickly, or your enemies will never die! Fight and explore through one of the largest castles ever seen in the series! Race another player through custom-made castle rooms in versus mode! A year has passed since Soma Cruz discovered the evil of Dracula hidden inside his body. Now, a mysterious cult wants to release the power of the Lord of Darkness. As Soma, you must do everything in your power to stop them before it's too late.

What it’s like

Dawn of Sorrow is a DS-era side-scroller with crisp, saturated 2D sprites set against a gothic castle drawn in layered, painted-looking backdrops: candlelit halls, moody violet cathedrals, graveyard greens and rust-red catacombs, with monsters rendered in bold, chunky outlines. The palette leans on deep shadow broken by warm torchlight and spectral blue-white glows, and the castle's rooms unfold in a steady sequence of gothic set pieces rather than long empty stretches. Its soundtrack is full and orchestral-leaning, with sweeping strings, organ-like tones and dramatic brass that swell in boss fights, while quieter corridors rely on ambient drones and distant bells. The vibe is brooding but playful, a dark fantasy with a bit of swagger, and it suits long evenings alone with the handheld, a rainy weekend, or a stretch of commute. Combat is fast and combo-driven, with a satisfying loop of collecting souls, trading them for new abilities, and grinding for items and levels. Intensity is moderate: frequent cartoonish blood, skeletal and demonic enemies, and some fear through jump scares and imposing bosses, but no gore or sexual content. It is for players who enjoy exploration-heavy action, collection-driven progression, and gothic atmosphere with a light touch.
