The story

A paragliding mishap drops a South Korean heiress in North Korea -- and into the life of an army officer, who decides he will help her hide.

What it’s like

Warm, sunlit and often playful, with bright daytime exteriors of green hills and snowy valleys alternating with cosy interiors lit by lamps and kitchen light, the show leans on wide establishing shots and easy two-shots that let its leads breathe. Its palette is clean and saturated in the South Korean scenes, all glossy city glass and cafe pastels, and gently greyed and muted in the North, where the rural village has a hand-me-down, lived-in texture. The score is full of sweet piano and strings, swelling at the big romantic beats and dropping to near silence in the quiet exchanges. Pacing is generous and episodic, with slapstick and banter giving way to slower domestic scenes, and the emotional register runs from teasing comedy to aching sincerity. The central arc is a stern, guarded man slowly softening toward a woman who keeps surprising him. Violence is limited and mostly off-screen: occasional tense standoffs and brief gunfire, no gore, some kissing and affectionate touching. It suits a comfort rewatch, a rainy evening, or a weekend binge for viewers who want romance with stakes but nothing brutal, and for fans of cross-border love stories and warm, witty romantic drama.
