The story

Crush the Castle 2 was the sequel to one of the first catapult physics games available for web browsers. The first one was impressive. However the second iteration, included even more levels to keep you on the edge your seat while you destroy castles using various medieval catapults.

What it’s like

Chunky, flat-shaded medieval cartoon graphics: stone castles in grey and ochre, bright green grass, pale blue skies, and a clean, bouncy physics engine where every wall, tower and knight tumbles with satisfying weight. The sound is light and mechanical, with twangs of launching catapults, dull thuds of stone on stone and cheerful squeaks as enemies fly off-screen, all against a quiet, unobtrusive background tune. It moves in short bursts: you aim a launcher with the mouse, let go, then watch the chain reaction play out in slow, shuddering slow-motion before the next level loads. It has a relaxed, low-stakes, slightly absurd mood, the kind of thing you play in short sessions during a lunch break or on a slow afternoon with a browser tab open. Violence is cartoonish destruction with no blood, gore or real cruelty, and there is no dialogue or sexual content. It suits anyone who likes the gentle satisfaction of tinkering with physics and watching structures collapse, especially players who want a simple, mouse-only puzzle they can pick up and put down.
