The story

A second helping of Cuphead action awaits on a brand new Inkwell Isle filled with boss battles, secrets, and adventure galore!

What it’s like

Hand-inked 1930s cartoon animation fills every frame: rubber-hose limbs, paper-grain backdrops, and watercolour skies that look like they were painted onto cel in a rush. The palette leans warm and saturated, with sunset oranges, candy pinks and deep sea-greens against inked black outlines, and the jazz-age score, all brass stabs, bouncing piano and swing, keeps the mood chipper and slightly mischievous. Its vibe is playful, sun-dappled nostalgia with a sharp edge of challenge. Pacing is brisk and punchy: short, reflex-driven boss fights that restart in seconds, broken up by side-scrolling platforming, card-game overworld hops and hidden secrets to find. Violence is cartoonish and constant but bloodless, with gunfire, explosions and giant monsters dispatched in puffs of smoke and comic-style hits, so it reads as slapstick rather than harm. Difficulty is the real intensity, with frustration and repetition coming from unforgiving patterns more than anything grim. A good fit for fans of classic arcade bosses who enjoy a light, funny tone and a joyful, hand-drawn look, and for players who want a challenge with a sense of humour.
