The story
A deliciously romantic coming together of Gulrez “Gullu” Qadir a Hyderabadi shoe-sales girl disillusioned with love because of her encounters with dowry-seeking men; and Tariq “Taru” Haidar a Lucknawi cook who can charm anybody with the aroma and flavours of his biryani and kebabs.
What it’s like
Warm, saturated frames of steamy kitchens, sizzling kebabs and glossy biryani close-ups, with the lanes of old Hyderabad and Lucknow glowing in afternoon light. Bright, bouncy Bollywood pop and wedding-season music fill the soundtrack, and the mood is open-hearted, teasing and easygoing: a cozy, sweet-natured romcom with comic family clashes and a light sprinkling of nostalgia. Its rhythm is brisk and musical, with song breaks that pause the banter for a moment of swooning. Arcs follow two wary people who warm to each other slowly through shared meals and the bruises of past disappointments, with a father-daughter thread adding tenderness. The intensity is gentle: some crude jokes and mild sexual innuendo, a bit of raised-voice drama, and no violence or gore. It suits a relaxed weekend evening, a comfort rewatch, or a late dinner with the lights low, and it is for viewers who want romance, humour and food that makes them hungry.
