The story
Women are disappearing without a trace in Rajasthan and nobody seems surprised. But police officer Anjali Bhaati notices a similarity in the cases: long nightly phone calls and a boyfriend that no one in the neighbourhood has ever seen.
What it’s like
Dusty, sun-bleached small-town streets under a hard noon sky, with the heat visible in the air and cramped police offices lit by flat fluorescent tubes and the slant of a ceiling fan. The camera tends to stay close and steady on faces in interrogation rooms and strained family kitchens, while wider shots of empty lanes and dry scrub land give the place a sense of isolation. The score is sparse and tense, with long stretches of ambient quiet that let unease gather. The vibe is grim, slow-burning and quietly political: patient procedural dread with a sour undercurrent about who gets looked for and who gets dismissed. Its rhythm is deliberate and episodic, and its emotional register stays sober and watchful. The central arc follows a determined, overlooked police officer pushing against indifference and her own institution, while the people around her carry grief, suspicion and compromise. Intensity is moderate to high: the premise involves serial murders of women, with disturbing crime-scene implications, suicide-adjacent deaths and tense confrontations, but violence is mostly implied or brief rather than gratuitous gore. It suits a focused evening rather than background viewing, and it fits viewers who want a serious, character-driven investigation with social weight.
