The story
After a foreign teenage tourist goes missing in a misty village, Kasturi, a frazzled local cop, is forced to team up with her city-bred successor, Angad, on a high-profile case that unearths skeletons and resurrects a long-forgotten legend of a savage serial killer in the woods.
What it’s like
Misty hill-country mornings, damp pine forests and cold, grey-green light that stays low and heavy over the valleys, with a palette of muted earth tones broken by the bright jackets of tourists. The camera tends to linger on wet roads, dim police stations and close, uneasy faces more than on action, and the score stays sparse and ambient, so the silences between lines carry weight. The mood is brooding, damp and procedural, with a slow-burning sense of dread that sits closer to unease than to shock. It suits a rainy weekend, a late evening alone, or anyone who likes atmosphere and patient detective work. The pacing is deliberate, and the emotional arc follows two officers from very different backgrounds, one worn down and one new to the place, who must learn to trust each other while the past of the region keeps surfacing. The crime content is serious: murder, missing persons, bodies and a grim serial-killer legend, handled with unsettling restraint and little on-screen gore, though the intensity is steady and the subject matter is dark. It is for viewers who want a moody, character-led mystery rather than a fast-paced thriller.
