The story

Deltarune: Chapter 2 is the next installment of the sequel to beloved indie darling Undertale...in a different world! This time around, two more classmates join the protagonists in their adventure as they, too, discover a mysterious world hidden behind a door, called the "Cyber World". Players with no save data will be able to start right at Chapter 2. “As long as you generally remember what happened story-wise, you’ll be fine,” the developers said in an FAQ.

What it’s like

Chunky pixel sprites drift across bright, saturated backdrops that shift from sunlit school hallways to glowing neon-tinged digital spaces, with a sound palette of bouncy chiptune, soft piano loops and sudden silences that leave room for the player to think. The vibe is playful and curious with an undercurrent of unease, the sort of game that suits a rainy afternoon at a desk, a lazy weekend session, or a late evening when you want something whimsical but not hushed. Its pacing is conversational and deliberately unhurried: long stretches of dialogue, jokes that land on the beat, and battles that can be sidestepped through talking, punctuated by bullet-hell encounters that briefly quicken the pulse. Emotionally it stays warm and wry, with friendships tested by suspicion and a cast of misfits slowly learning to trust one another, and the storytelling leans on memory and recurring characters for its rewards. Intensity is low: cartoonish combat with no gore, mild peril, some tense boss moments and a few eerie scenes, but nothing graphic or cruel. It is for players who love character-driven RPGs, quirky humour and the pleasure of a story that keeps pulling its threads back together.
