The story

The classic multiplayer roguelike, Risk of Rain, returns with an extra dimension and more challenging action. No run will ever be the same with randomized stages, enemies, bosses, and items. Play solo, or team up with up to four friends to fight your way through hordes of monsters, unlock new loot, and find a way to escape the planet.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated 3D environments that shift from sun-drenched alien grasslands to rusted industrial ruins and glowing crystal caverns, with a cartoonish, toy-like character design that keeps the carnage feeling playful rather than grim. The camera hangs close over your survivor's shoulder as the screen fills with confetti-coloured tracers, pulsing particle bursts and a sudden flood of enemies, while the synth-and-chiptune score swells with each stage and drops to a tense thrum when a boss arrives. Runs move in a frantic, escalating rhythm: a slow, gathering start where you pick up items and then a sharp spike of chaos as the difficulty timer climbs. Violence is constant but stylised, with monsters bursting into sparks and cartoon flashes rather than gore, and the stakes are fear of losing a run rather than cruelty; there is no sexual content. Its tone is giddy, determined and a little manic, a loop of tense comebacks and small triumphs. It suits a late-night session with friends in voice chat, or a solo run while you want something absorbing and hard to put down. It is for people who love scrappy, rewarding repetition and the thrill of a build coming together.
