The story
A police department, lead by an older, experienced detective solve crimes together.
What it’s like
Warm tungsten interiors and grey, rain-slick city streets, shot with the soft grain and flat, even lighting of 1970s German television. Offices are cluttered with ashtrays, desk lamps, and wood-panelled walls, while exteriors favour overcast daylight and dusk. Camera work is mostly steady medium shots and unhurried two-shots of men talking across desks, with cuts that let silences breathe. Music is sparing, a brisk theme at the edges, with long stretches of ambient street and office noise. The vibe is worn, dry, and quietly tense: a comfortable procedural with a weary, patient center. Pacing is deliberate, built on interviews, stakeouts, and small deductions rather than chases. Violence is limited and mostly offscreen, with a few brief, sudden moments of threat and no gore. The lead, an older detective, is shown as meticulous and tired, gradually earning the trust of his younger colleagues. It suits a rainy weekend afternoon, a slow evening in, or viewers who enjoy classic European crime with a gentle, humane sensibility and little graphic content.
