The story

Dino Crisis 2 is a third-person action-adventure game and sequel to Dino Crisis. In a change from the survival horror theme of the first game, Dino Crisis 2 is more shoot 'em up oriented. The character always runs, removing the need for the run button from the first game; players can carry a second gun, and more weapons were added. Besides gameplay changes, the game also introduces new species of dinosaurs and lizards.

What it’s like

Hard-edged, sun-bleached industrial interiors lit by flickering emergency strips, sterile corridors bleeding into jungle canopy under a flat, washed-out daylight, all rendered in the chunky polygon detail and pre-rendered backdrops of the PlayStation era. The palette runs to cold steel greys, rust and sickly green, with red warning lights and muzzle flashes doing most of the colour work. Camera sits behind a constantly sprinting heroine, so the feel is forward momentum rather than lingering. Sound is a restless mix of metallic clangs, gunfire, distant roars and a driving, percussive score that rarely lets up. The vibe is tense, sweaty and urgent: a noisy late-night run-and-gun for a long evening alone, or a nostalgic replay on an old console. Pacing is brisk and relentless, with short bursts of exploration broken by sudden ambushes. Its violence is frequent and bloody, with dinosaurs tearing into soldiers and the player, and death is a constant presence, though the tone stays pulpy rather than grim. It suits players who want action-heavy shooting with creature combat and a sci-fi military edge, and it is a poor fit for anyone wanting something gentle.
