The story

Disciples II Gold is a turn-based fantasy game comprised of the awarding winning Disciples II Dark Prophecy and its critically acclaimed expansions sets. Control over 200 unique characters across 5 massive campaigns. Whether you are a beginner or an expert Disciples II Gold offers hundreds of game play hours for all levels.

What it’s like

Painted fantasy art and hand-drawn unit portraits give this turn-based strategy game a storybook look, with dark forests, gothic castles and smoky battlefields rendered in muted, earthy tones rather than bright fantasy colour. The hex maps are seen from a fixed angle, so the world feels like a detailed diorama to pore over, and the combat screens animate with a deliberate, heavy weight. Music leans toward orchestral fantasy with brooding strings and drums, and the soundscape of marching hooves, clanking armour and distant horns fills quiet turns between battles. The overall vibe is solemn, grand and somewhat austere, best suited to slow evenings with time to think. Pacing is methodical: each turn asks you to weigh movement, terrain and unit abilities, and campaigns stretch across many hours as your army and the stakes grow together. Violence is fantasy combat with blades, spells and creatures, shown with stylised impact and little gore; the tension comes from tactical losses rather than fear or cruelty. It suits strategy players who enjoy long, thoughtful campaigns and quietly absorbing worlds.
