The story
Kidnapped. Imprisoned. Tortured. The wizard Irenicus holds you captive in his stronghold, attempting to strip you of the powers that are your birthright. Can you resist the evil within you, forge a legend of heroic proportions, and ultimately destroy the dark essence that haunts your dreams? Or will you embrace your monstrous nature, carve a swath of destruction across the realms, and ascend to godhood as the new Lord of Murder? Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition brings this critically acclaimed role-playing experience to PC, Mac, iPad, and Android.
What it’s like
Hand-painted isometric backdrops in muted earth tones, with torchlight pooling warm against cold dungeon stone and the occasional burst of spell colour across a dark forest or a sprawling city street. Characters are small, detailed sprites that move across the scenes like pieces on a tabletop board, and the camera rarely moves, so the world feels built to be studied. The score is orchestral and ambient, with long tense swells during exploration and sudden percussive stings in fights. Its vibe is brooding and solemn, a slow-burn fantasy with a grim, unsettling undercurrent, best suited to long evenings alone or a weekend settling into a big adventure. Pacing is deliberate: long stretches of wandering, talking and inventory tinkering punctuated by tactical, pausable battles, with the emotional arc following a protagonist who must decide what kind of person to become. Violence is frequent and fantasy-styled, with monsters, blood spatter in combat and some dark, disturbing content around captivity and torture, but little that lingers on gore. It suits players who want a rich, choice-driven tabletop RPG with a strong sense of place, and it rewards patience, curiosity and a taste for old-school design.
