The story

The eagerly awaited follow-up to Red Hook's smash hit gothic horror RPG! DDII will test your mettle and drive you to the brink of madness. Armor yourself with purpose and provision your party for the journey ahead. It will be arduous.

What it’s like

Hand-painted, decaying gothic art in muted ochres, bruised purples and sickly greens, with heavy inked outlines and a slightly warped, storybook quality that makes every frame feel like a page from an unearthed diary. The camera sits fixed on side-on scenes, with the party lined up in a row and the Ancestor's roadside camp and ruined villages drawn in layered parallax. Sound is a low, droning ambience of wind, distant drums and creaking timber, broken by sudden stingers and the wet crunch of combat, while narration and the characters' stress-induced barks keep the mood unsettled. Turn-based combat moves at a deliberate, tactical rhythm, interrupted by long, quiet stretches of planning and provisioning in camp. Its vibe is oppressive yet grimly absorbing, a slow-burn dread that builds toward panic and moments of hard-won relief. Violence is frequent and grisly, with blood, dismemberment and creature horror, though it stays stylised rather than realistic, and the psychological toll (fear, madness, hunger and loss of party members) carries real weight. It suits late nights alone and players who want a demanding, permadeath-driven challenge, for people who enjoy grim atmosphere, careful resource management and the tension of losing someone they've grown to rely on.
