The story

Caroline Walker returns in the sequel to the award-winning survival horror classic. Explore the decaying remains of the secluded Villa Hess, use improvised weapons to confront terrifying creatures, and bend the fabric of reality to save your sister from a twisted cult.

What it’s like

Grim, decaying interiors lit by flickering lamplight, torchlight and the sickly glow of old electrics, with the camera pulled back in fixed-angle third-person views that keep rooms feeling cramped and watched. Palette leans on rust, bruised purple and sallow yellow, and the textures suggest peeling wallpaper, damp stone and cluttered attics. Sound does most of the work: low drones, distant scrapes and sudden stingers that punctuate long stretches of near silence while you search for keys and tools. The vibe is claustrophobic dread with a tense, methodical edge, best suited to a late-night session alone with the lights off. Pacing is slow and puzzle-led, with lulls for backtracking and item management broken by abrupt, close-quarters encounters. Gore is frequent and visceral, with bloody wounds, mutilated bodies and creature attacks shown up close, while the emotional register stays bleak and anxious around a woman pushing through fear to rescue her sister. Best for players who want old-school survival horror with brutal, unflinching violence and a heavy atmosphere rather than anything gentle.
