The story

Obsidian Entertainment proudly presents the sequel to our crowdfunded and critically-acclaimed role-playing game, Pillars of Eternity. Welcome to Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. With Pillars II, we are revisiting the rich narrative, beautiful environments, and tactical combat that made Pillars of Eternity one of the highest-rated PC games of all time.

What it’s like

Painted, hand-drawn isometric backdrops give the world a storybook texture: sun-bleached island ports, mossy ruins, storm-grey open water, and lantern-lit taverns in warm amber. Travel happens across a sprawling archipelago aboard a ship, so long stretches of the game feel like drifting on a slow sea under wide skies, punctuated by sudden landfalls. The soundtrack is orchestral and folk-tinged, swelling during exploration and falling away to quiet strings in conversation. Combat is turn-based and tactical, with readable spell bursts and sword flashes; violence is frequent but stylised, with moderate bloodshed and no sustained gore. Dialogue is dense, text-heavy, and often morally knotty, with some mature themes and occasional sexual references. The vibe is contemplative, slightly melancholy adventure, best suited to unhurried sessions, a rainy weekend, or a long run of late-night play where each choice can be savoured. It is for people who love reading their way through a world, enjoy building a party of companions with their own histories, and don't mind a game that asks for patience.
