The story

The life story of Elvis Presley as seen through the complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

What it’s like

Restless, saturated spectacle: split screens, rapid-cut montages and swooping camera moves that turn Memphis and Las Vegas into pink, gold and neon-flecked fever dreams, with carnival lights blurring past and stage lamps flaring hot. The sound is the engine, with rockabilly guitar, gospel-tinged vocals and reworked hits pounding under a modern hip-hop-inflected mix that makes 1950s songs feel newly electric. Its vibe is giddy, brash and bittersweet, closer to a fizzing showtime than quiet reflection, and it suits a night out with friends, a loud Saturday, or a comfort-watch when you want energy. Pacing is relentless, with few breaths between numbers and scenes, and the emotional register swings between euphoric concert crowds and sharp, sour flashes of control and exploitation. Its central arc follows a gifted, sensitive performer slowly crushed by a manipulative handler who keeps him close. Intensity is moderate: some violence and menace, brief gunfire, and drug-fuelled turmoil, but no gore and little sexual content. It is for people who love big musical biopics, flamboyant editing and classic rock, and who don't mind their spectacle with an undertow of melancholy.
