The story

Ever 17: The Out of Infinity is a visual novel video game developed by KID. It is the second entry in the Infinity series; it is preceded by Never 7: The End of Infinity, and followed by Remember 11: The Age of Infinity, 12Riven: The Psi-Climinal of Integral, and Code_18. From VNDB: "Ever17 is the tale of seven individuals who come to be trapped 153 feet within the underwater marine theme park, LeMU. During an apparently normal day at the park, a massive accident happens, placing almost half of the facility underwater. The path to the surface and the communication lines are cut off. In addition, LeMU is under constant assault by severe water pressure, limiting time to find a means of escape to 119 hours. Escape is not the only concern, however; many questions arise as to the legitimacy of the accident and whether or not those trapped there were brought there for a purpose."

What it’s like

Cool blue light filtering through water, pale fluorescent corridors and sterile white labs lit by the hum of machinery, and a constant sense of pressure pressing in from every wall. The visual novel's art is clean anime portraiture over softly rendered backgrounds, with the aquarium's glowing tanks and dim concrete service tunnels giving each scene a cool, enclosed quiet. The soundtrack leans on sparse, watery synth and ambient pulses that drop out in long stretches, so a silent corridor often feels more tense than any cue. Reading is the main act: the text moves at the reader's pace, with a countdown clock that nudges decisions forward and jump-cut flashes that jolt you out of calm. The mood is tense, eerie, and mysterious, with a clinical unease that tips into dread, and the sci-fi twists arrive as slow reveals rather than shocks. Violence is present and occasionally graphic, with bloody deaths and some disturbing imagery, and there is some sexual content and mature themes. The arcs centre on frightened strangers forced to trust one another and questioning what they remember. It suits a late-night session alone with headphones, and it is for readers who enjoy puzzle-like mysteries and slow-burn psychological suspense.
