The story
An updated version of the PlayStation game Final Fantasy Tactics, released on PlayStation Portable and later released on iOS and Android. "The stage is set for what history would one day record as the War of the Lions. Experience new CG cinematics. Meet new Characters. Explore new jobs & missions. Wage new multiplayer battles. Behold a new legend!"
What it’s like
Isometric battlefields of chequered grass, stone bridges and sun-baked plains, built from small, detailed 3D figures that sit on a tilted grid, with painted-looking backdrops and bright flashes of spell effects cutting across muted earth tones. Anime-styled cutscenes punctuate the campaign, and Hitoshi Sakimoto's orchestral score swings between stirring brass marches and aching, wistful strings, so battles feel grand and sorrowful at once. The vibe is deliberate, strategic and quietly melancholic: a medieval war of noble houses and shifting alliances, with a silent protagonist drifting through it. Each turn is a considered move, so sessions suit a long evening with a cup of tea, a planning-heavy weekend, or a portable run on a long-haul flight. Combat is turn-based and tactical, with frequent character deaths, political betrayal and wartime cruelty handled through the story rather than gore, and fights end in clean, stylised flashes rather than graphic violence. It is built for players who want deep job systems, layered party-building and a sweeping political war story told at a patient, thoughtful pace.
