The story

Final Fantasy X is the tenth main installment in the FF series and the first title released on sixth-generation consoles. It was also the first game to feature fully three-dimensional areas rather than including pre-rendered backdrops, and the first to include voice acting. Final Fantasy X tells the story of a star blitzball player, Tidus, who journeys with a young and beautiful summoner named Yuna on her quest to save the world of Spira from an endless cycle of destruction wrought by the colossal menace Sin.

What it’s like

Sun-bleached tropical color carries this game from the first shoreline: turquoise surf, lush jungle, sandy villages strung along the coast, and pale stone temples that glow in golden afternoon light. Its 3D environments let the camera drift slowly through these spaces, and the cutscenes are polished CG with smooth, expressive faces. The soundtrack moves between breezy island melodies, sweeping orchestral swells, and quiet, reverent choral passages, with fully voiced dialogue giving the characters an unhurried warmth. The overall vibe is wistful and bittersweet, with a steady undercurrent of religious ceremony and looming dread. It suits a lazy weekend, a long stretch of uninterrupted evenings, or a patient replay. Pacing is leisurely, with long walks between towns, optional sports matches and racing minigames, and turn-based battles against monsters and grotesque giants. Violence is fantasy combat with no gore, though death and loss weigh heavily on the story and some scenes are emotionally heavy. Romance stays gentle and understated. It is for players who enjoy melancholic adventure, character-driven storytelling, and a slow, contemplative sense of place.
