The story

Based on the international versions of the games that were previously only released in Japan and Europe, FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster brings these timeless classics forward to the current generation of fans, old and new alike.

What it’s like

Sun-saturated tropical color and sweeping CG cutscenes give way to dim sea-cliff dusk and sparkling water, with the HD upscale softening the old pre-rendered backdrops into painterly, slightly glossy surfaces. Tidus and Yuna's journey plays out across lush jungle, ruined temples, and lamplit port towns, paced by a long, melancholy arc of ritual and loss. The score, led by Nobuo Uematsu's wistful piano and strings, shifts into bright, bouncy pop in the sequel's costume-swapping adventure, so the mood moves from aching nostalgia to playful, cheerful momentum. Turn-based battles are unhurried and deliberate, with exploration built around quiet walks, sphere-grid progression, and sports matches. Violence is stylized and cartoonish, with boss fights that are dramatic but not gory, and themes of sacrifice, betrayal, and grief land emotionally rather than graphically. It suits a rainy afternoon, a comfort replay, or a long evening alone with a controller. For players who want a wistful, bittersweet fantasy with lush scenery, sincere friendship, and a soundtrack that carries them through every change of mood.
