Friday the 13th Part VII - The New Blood

The story

Tina Shepard, a telekinetic teenage girl, accidentally unchains Jason from his watery grave, allowing him to go on another killing spree in the area.

What it’s like

Dim, murky lake light and cold blue-grey dusk dominate this slasher, with the woods and cabins framed in flat, overlit 1980s video-style photography that tips into neon-tinted night scenes. Camera work is workmanlike and quick: standard coverage, lots of stalking POV shots through the trees, and jump-cut stings timed to the score's blaring synth stabs and pounding drum pulses. The sound design leans on splashes, creaking dock boards and sudden shrieks against long stretches of wind and insect hum. The vibe is pulpy, sweaty and gleefully lurid, the kind of thing suited to a rowdy late-night watch with friends or a Halloween double bill. Pacing is brisk and episodic, with sporadic bursts of gore and sadistic kills between slow stretches of teen banter, and its central arc follows a troubled telekinetic girl wrestling with her powers. Intensity is high: frequent graphic violence, prosthetic gore, gruesome deaths, and some nudity and sexual content, with dread more than suspense. Made for horror fans who want practical gore, a mask-wearing killer and camp-soaked mayhem, not for anyone seeking something gentle.
